Books As Art From Ettan Press
There are books which stand by themselves as objects of art. Their lifeline is original typography, which means drawing with the type, enjoying the elegance of the fonts and the asymmetric grace of the clusters of letters. Such books, in limited editions, breathe the perfume of ink, of leather, of bookbinder’s glue, of fine handmade paper and freshly printed etchings. Our ambition is to create unusual books of unusual texts complemented with original artwork as a commentary, not illustration: compositions to evoke resonance between the images and the words: books as magic boxes.
Ettan books are mementa, graphic theatres of printed word, paper and leather which we build in the spirit of Lautreamont’s hope that one day, perhaps, all people will make poetry.
This is why we make Ettan books.
